Energy Booster: Try Chocolate-Infused Mexican Food

You can admit that some days can be draining. But you do not have to resort to several cups of coffee or energy drinks with questionable ingredients. Believe it or not, you can stop at a Mexican restaurant to boost your energy and satisfy your hunger, as long as you know what to order. And it just so happens that you should order foods that contain chocolate.

Chocolate Can Fight Fatigue

Studies have shown that chocolate contains several ingredients that can help boost your energy and mood. The two ingredients associated with your mood are theobromine and tryptophan. These two ingredients help your body produce serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that allows you to feel happier and calmer.

The aforementioned ingredients and other stimulants, including the caffeine will also increase mental acuity. But they don't stop with just your mental acuity, as they also regulate your blood pressure. Meaning that you should also feel a boost to your physical strength, as chocolate helps to rush blood and nutrients through your body.

Remember that not all chocolate products are the same. You need dark or raw chocolate to receive some of the aforementioned benefits, and thankfully traditional Mexican cuisine uses a lot of dark chocolate.

Mexican Dishes & Drinks With Chocolate

The following are a few traditional dishes and drinks that you can order the next time you visit your favorite Mexican restaurant:

  1. The first thing to get out of the way is the famous Mexican hot chocolate. This is traditionally made with dark chocolate, almonds, vanilla, a chili pepper, a touch of spice and cinnamon. You should expect a foamy texture and an intoxicating aroma when ordering this particular drink.
  2. You can also choose to drink champurrado with your meal. Champurrado is a thick drink that is made of dark chocolate, corn, cane sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. This drink is traditionally paired with a tamale, just in case you want to consume it like you would in Mexico.
  3. Perhaps you might be interested in chocolate flan if you are in the mood for a small dessert. Flan is a traditional sponge cake-like dessert that is typically made of vanilla, caramel and dark chocolate.
  4. Go no further than a tamale filled with mole should you need something filling and energizing. The secret to this dish is the mole sauce. Mole is made of several ingredients, including dark chocolate, a chili pepper, pepper, and roasted nuts, like almonds or cashews and dried fruit. Some mole sauces can have as many as 30 ingredients, so have fun experimenting to find the sauce that works for you.

As you can see, all the energy you need to finish up your day can be yours by simply stopping by your favorite Mexican restaurant like La Cabana Restaurant.
