Grilled Turkey Breast Made Simple
Ingredients
1 turkey breast - fresh or thawed
Salt and pepper
Whatever herbs or seasonings that meet your fancy - poultry seasoning, garlic powder, thyme, oregano, basil, garlic rosemary shake, etc.
This is a delicious turkey breast recipe that is easy to prepare. The family will love it and it makes great leftovers.
Directions
The key to grilling a turkey breast is how you set up your grill.
Rather than putting all the charcoal in the middle of the grill and placing the turkey directly over the heat, bank your charcoal along the sides of the grill so that the heat radiates around the turkey. There should be no charcoal in the middle of the grill.
You should also make sure your grill has a good lid that allows you to regulate the flow of air through vents in the lid and below the charcoal.
After firing up your grill as described above, season your turkey breast the way you like. Or since you are trying a new way to cook the turkey, try some seasonings you don't normally use.
Take the breast out to the grill and place the turkey in the middle of the rack, not over the charcoal. The drippings from the turkey will fall down into the middle of the grill.
Cover the grill with your lid. I like to open the bottom vent all the way and close the top vent to half open. This keeps the charcoal from getting too hot and burning the sides of your breast.
Cook the turkey breast for 1 1/2 hours or until the juice runs clear when a fork is stuck in the turkey. Cooking time can vary depending on how hot your grill is. The skin will get crispy and brown and be wonderful.
Additional Notes
My brother-in-law is a huge believer of grilling all year round. His grill is never put away. As he learned how to use his grill, he discovered new ways of cooking old favorites. One of these favorites was a turkey breast. And no, turkey is not just for Thanksgiving. Try doing this all year round. The grilled flavor is wonderful with turkey and you can always use leftover turkey in sandwiches. Don't worry about all the Thanksgiving fixings, instead serve with a fresh salad, in season vegetables and lots of pita bread.
Easy. Have fun with this and enjoy turkey all year round.
